Temperatures to climb into 50s

Lawrence got a few sprinkles this morning before 6 a.m. and again around noon. And the city could still get some more wet weather throughout the day, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“A passing shower will be possible into the afternoon,” Schack said. “We’ve had the clouds around throughout the morning and we have not seen any sunshine.”

Temperatures will be cooler this afternoon than they were in the last couple of days, when they rose into the 70s. Today’s high is expected to reach only 51 degrees, Schack said.

At 12:15 p.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport was getting some light rain, the temperature was 45 degrees, the humidity was 80 percent and winds were from the north at 12 mph, making the windchill 39 degrees.

Today’s morning low was 44 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 33 degrees. The record low temperature was 6 degrees in 1912.

The average high temperature for this date is 55. The record high temperature was 79 in 1986.

Friday’s morning low will be 33 degrees, with Friday’s high climbing to 64 degrees, she said. Skies will be mostly sunny.

Saturday’s skies will be mostly sunny, she said. Saturday’s morning low will be 48 degrees, with the high climbing to 69 degrees, she said.
