Youth turkey hunt slated
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake, along with Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the National Wild Turkey Federation, will play host to its first Youth Turkey Hunt at Clinton Lake on April 8.
Planned as an annual event, the Clinton Lake Youth Turkey Hunt allows hunters to be drawn from a pool of applicants to hunt at an assigned area. Hunters must carry a “special hunt” permit issued by the Corps and follow all Kansas statutes. Normally, hunting is not permitted in these areas at Clinton Lake.
The purpose of the special hunt is to encourage young hunters to become interested in turkey hunting and to do so in an ethical manner. Young hunters between the ages of 10 and 16 will be paired with an adult guide of the hunter’s choice. If the young hunter does not have access to an adult guide, one will be provided.
Interested applicants may contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center at Clinton Lake by telephone: 785-843-7665, fax: 785-843-4360, or e-mail at clinton@usace.army.mil and request an application. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on March 17.
