Royals pound Rockies

? Angel Sanchez had a two-run triple, and the Kansas City Royals rapped out 23 hits against six Colorado pitchers in a 13-8 win over the Rockies on Sunday.

All of the Kansas City hits were singles or doubles, except for Sanchez’s three-base hit. Colorado finished with 16 hits in the loss.

Rockies catcher Eli Marrero went 3-for-3 with an RBI double. He also threw out Kansas City’s Paul Phillips attempting to steal in the second inning.

Marrero’s contract recently was purchased from Triple-A Colorado Springs, and he is performing well in his quest to make the 25-man roster. Marrero, who spent 2005 with Kansas City and Baltimore, also could serve the club as a utility outfielder.

Royals center fielder David DeJesus went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

The Rockies scored three times to tie it at 5 in the third inning, but Keiichi Yabu gave up four runs in the fourth, and Colorado was unable to recover.
