Rangers stop K.C.
Surprise, Ariz. ? Adam Eaton allowed two runs and four hits over 21â3 innings in his Texas spring-training debut, and the Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals, 9-8, Saturday.
Texas acquired Eaton in a six-player trade with San Diego, and he is expected to be the Rangers’ No. 2 starter behind Kevin Millwood.
“My fastball command was pretty poor, but the cutter was pretty good,” Eaton said. “The first inning had good points and bad points.”
Kansas City’s Doug Mientkiewicz hit a two-run double in the first following singles by Reggie Sanders and Mark Grudzielanek. Mientkiewicz also had a run-scoring single off R.A. Dickey in a two-run fifth.
Kansas City trailed 9-5 in the ninth, got a leadoff single from Donnie Murphy, then scored three runs without a hit. Wes Littleton hit Joe McEwing with a pitch, and Texas pitchers walked four, including Wilson Valdez and Chris Richard with the bases loaded. Joselo Diaz got the save by retiring Kerry Robinson on a grounder with the bases full.
