Jayhawks split at Tulsa

? Kansas University’s softball squad split a pair of games Saturday at the Best Western Airport Festival, beating No. 17-ranked Nebraska, 4-0, but losing to Notre Dame, 5-2, in the nightcap.

In the first game, Serena Settlemier (4-3) went the distance, allowing just three hits and striking out five in the shutout victory. There wasn’t much offense on either side. KU had just five hits. Jessica Moppin was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and KU scored two unearned runs.

The defeat ended a 10-game winning streak for Nebraska (10-2). Husker freshman Molly Hill (6-1) struck out eight, allowed five hits and walked four in her first career loss.

Against Notre Dame, the game was scoreless until the Irish blew it open in the fifth, plating four runs off five hits and two Jayhawk errors. Kassie Humphreys (4-5) allowed seven hits in 52â3 innings.

The Jayhawks (8-10) will play tourney host Tulsa (11-4) at 1 p.m. today, then return home for their opener at Arrocha Ballpark – a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Wednesday against Missouri State.
