Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for March 3, 1906: “Efforts are under way for more purification of flour which can have poisonous effects when too much bleaching process is involved. Whiteness of the flour is no indication of its quality or safety, we are told. : There are discussions about whether our new street lamps are as bright as the previous ones, but most seem to prefer the new ones and are calling for more. : Baldwin is due to get a new $10,000 rail depot this summer. Santa Fe is opening its heart and purse to the Methodist town. : A jury at Independence, Kan., has awarded $5,000 to a woman who was run over by a motor car. There is no indication of her welfare.”
