Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 2, 1906: “President Roosevelt is advocating better national railroad legislation that will benefit both railroads and their patrons, a noble goal if big money does not alter the outcome. Railroads seem to be struggling to gain control of the Kansas Legislature and appear to be making headway. : Graeber Brothers are building a huge concrete two-story vault in the space between their building on Massachusetts and the warehouse routing on Henry. The structure is supposed to be burglar-proof and will have a vault in the basement with an arch top with another vault on the ground story. The vault will be one of the safest in the city and cannot be undermined.”
