Dropped gun discharges, shooting 71-year-old

A Douglas County man accidentally shot himself Wednesday afternoon when he dropped his .32-caliber handgun in his home.

According to the sheriff’s department, the 71-year-old man dropped his gun on the floor of his home while trying to remove it from a holster on his belt. The gun then discharged, striking him.

An air ambulance was put on standby as medical crews traveled to the house at 435 North 2190 Road, then saw that the wound didn’t require helicopter transportation and canceled the call.
