Cooler temperatures return

Chance for rain Saturday

Put away the beach wear and pull on a sweater – cooler weather has moved back in to Lawrence.

“The sunshine stays today, but the 70s don’t,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “Temperatures will be about 20 degrees cooler today than they were yesterday.”

At 7:45 a.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 36 degrees, the humidity was 76 percent and winds were from the west at 5 mph, making the windchill 32 degrees.

This morning’s low temperature was 30 degrees, around 5 a.m. The average low for this date is 31 degrees. The record low was 0 degrees, set in 1925.

“It’s a beautiful day out. Temperatures are starting to climb,” Schack said.

Temperatures will rise to the low 50s by noon, she said.

Schack predicted that today’s high temperature will climb to 58 degrees, with northwest winds 5 to 15 mph. The average high for this date is 52 degrees. The record high was 81 degrees, set in 1901

Skies will be veiled by high-level clouds today, she said.

Tonight’s low temperatures fall below average to 26 degrees by early Friday morning, she said. But Friday’s high temperature will be right at average, at 52 degrees, with sunny skies, Schack said.

Clouds will move in late Friday, bringing a chance for rain overnight Friday into Saturday and a chance for rain throughout the day Saturday, Schack said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 38 degrees, with the high climbing to 54 degrees, she said.

Rain showers are also possible Saturday night into Sunday, she said.
