Tin Tigers capitalize on Maniacs’ miscues in close 5-3 victory

The Rookie boys Futsal Maniacs and Tin Tigers were out in full force on Saturday at the East Lawrence Center. After ping-ponging goals back and forth between the two teams, the Tigers broke through the Maniacs’ goal and won 5-3.

The Maniacs started off strong scoring one goal. Goalie Corey Mann then squelched a Tiger goal attempt as it inched into the goal box. Player Alex Craig ran in for a kick-in before the Maniacs hit back with another goal minutes later.

The Tigers shot back with a goal from forward Fred Brou to pin the Maniacs down. Brou also blocked a crucial shot from the Maniacs seconds later, before the first half was over.

Sage Bostwick broke through for the Maniacs in the second half. Bostwick attempted one goal before his teammates distracted the Tigers to allow Bostwick to slip by virtually undetected and slip in an unchallenged goal.

Bostwick said he has been enjoying his position and learning new things throughout the season.

Maniac goalie Corey Mann stands at his goal waiting for the action to return to his end during Saturday's Rookie boys league game at the East Lawrence Center.

“I felt good about the game ,and I really like the season so far and getting to score a lot of goals,” Bostwick said.

Though Bostwick sunk one in for the Maniacs, the Tigers scored a goal off of a penalty kick after a Sam Campbell got the ball in front of the goal. After the game Campbell said his favorite part was taking part in the Tigers’ outfield positions.

Campbell and his team worked on scoring some more goals. After the Maniacs’ goalie slipped up, the Tigers had an opening to hit another goal. Tin Tiger John Anderson snuck in a third goal and then squelched a powerful kick from the Maniacs’ Bostwick to seal the victory.

Anderson said he liked playing on the offensive side in the game.

“I like playing offense because I like getting the ball and scoring,” Anderson said.

Tigers head coach Julie Campbell said the team’s victory was the result of many weeks of practice and improvement.

“The team has really improved in the last four weeks, but more importantly they are just running around and having lots of fun,” Campbell said.
