Hot, windy end to June

Temperatures will soar up to nearly 100 degrees today, bringing a hot, dry and windy end to the month of June.

“Be sure to use sunscreen and drink lots of water,” said Sarah Jones, 6News weather forecaster.

Jones said today’s temperature will climb to 98 degrees, with winds coming in out of the south to southeast at 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.

“We’ll see quite a bit of sunshine as we go through the day,” Jones said.

The average high temperature for this date is 89 degrees. The record high was 102 degrees, set in 1933.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 72 degrees, the humidity was 53 percent and winds were calm. The average morning low temperature for this date is 68 degrees. The record low was 52 degrees, set in 1943.

More hot weather is expected through the weekend, Jones said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 68 degrees, with Saturday’s high climbing to 96 degrees and partly cloudy skies, she said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 68 degrees, with Sunday’s high reaching 94 degrees, she said. There is a chance of storms on Sunday, she said.
