Traffic lights

June 28, 2006

To the editor:

This concerns traffic lights. On Wednesday, June 21, I was going south on Michigan Street at around 5:45 a.m. As I was approaching Sixth Street, I noticed that the traffic lights were still blinking so I stopped and looked both ways before I cautiously started to make a left turn. Lo and behold here comes a car down Sixth Street at a pretty good speed and thank God his reflexes and his brakes were in great shape because otherwise I would have been splattered on Sixth Street that morning.

What I really want is to let the city know that Sixth Street is a very busy street. Maybe they don't know it, but there are people who work the night shift and people who have to commute early in the morning to get to their out-of-town jobs. Therefore the city should see to it that those lights should go on earlier. I really think they should be on all night.

Is it possible that maybe it was your fault for turning in front of another car?? I believe you had the blinking red light and they had the blinking yellow light. Maybe you should just be a little more careful!?

Mary, maybe if you have a vaild concern you should call up the public works department and stop writing LTE's.

Thanks brian33: I was thinking the same thing. Even if this other driver was doing a 100 down the street you should of seen him in time to know not to pull out.

blessed: how is public works going to handle a traffic issue??

That stretch of road has tremendous lines of site in both directions. There is no way Mary should not have seen the car coming even if it was speeding (assuming of course Mary stopped like she was supposed to and looked both directions). If Mary isn't smart enough to know how to use a blinking red light, why should we assume she'd do better with a solid one?
