KU’s Horton third at junior track

? Kansas University freshman Stephanie Horton took third place in the shot put at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Horton’s third and best toss measured 14.79 meters (48 feet, 61â4 inches).

Horton’s toss was 17 inches off her season-best throw of 49-111â4, which she recorded at the Mesa Classic on April 14.

Horton, an All-Big 12 Conference outdoor performer in the shot put, recorded a foul on all three of her attempts in the discus throw.

Two other Jayhawks also competed at the meet. Senior Sheldon Battle, a six-time All-American, recorded a foul on all three of his attempts in both the shot put and discus throws at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

KU freshman Sha’Ray Butler, competing in the 400-meter hurdles in the junior competition, finished 27th overall in the event, with a time of 1:07.37.
