Sunny and cooler than average

Clear skies and relatively cool temperatures were bringing a mild start to this morning, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Make sure you have the sunglasses,” Schack said. “It won’t be until this afternoon that we’ll see a few clouds develop.”

Schack said Lawrence’s temperature will stay below average today, climbing to a high of only 80 degrees by 4 p.m.. The average high temperature for this date is 87 degrees. The record high was 105 degrees, set in 1936.

At 7:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 60 degrees, the humidity was 84 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 8 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 67 degrees. The record low was 51 degrees, set in 1958.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 55 degrees by sunrise Tuesday morning, Schack said. Tuesday’s high will climb to 84 degrees with partly cloudy skies, she said.

Another partly cloudy day is in store for Wednesday, she said. Wednesday’s morning temperature will start at 57 degrees and climb to a high of 84 degrees by Wednesday afternoon, she said. There’s a slight chance for some scattered thunderstorms on Wednesday evening, she said.

Lawrence picked up about .15 of an inch of rain on Saturday afternoon at Lawrence Municipal Airport, although amounts varied widely around the city, Schack said.

Saturday’s rain brings the monthly total for June to 1.11 inches, which is 3.73 inches below average for June, she said.
