Lawrence pro qualifies for PGA Championship
Jim Kane, head pro at Eagle Bend Golf Course since its inception in 1998 until leaving earlier this month, qualified Sunday for the 88th PGA Championship, Aug. 17-20 at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club.
Finishing in a tie for 12th, Kane was among a field of 20 club professionals who qualified during a four-day tournament in Verona, N.Y. Kane shot 71-70-69-74 for a 284 total, six strokes behind the winner. Ron Philo Jr. of Westchester, N.Y., defeated Alan Schulte from Fishers, Ind., in a playoff for the national club pro championship.
Kane left Eagle Bend to start getting ready to join the PGA Champions Tour in 2007.
