Temperatures warming into 80s

Slight chance for thunderstorms Saturday night

Heading out to the St. John’s Mexican Fiesta? You might need a sombrero – lots of sunshine is expected late this afternoon, says Sarah Jones, 6News meteorologist.

“The weather today should be really great,” Jones said.

“It will remain partly cloudy throughout most of the day,” she said. However, clouds are expected to break up this afternoon, she said.

Temperatures will stay just below average, warming up to a high of 85 degrees, she said. The average high temperature for this date is 87 degrees. The record high was 105 degrees, set in 1934.

Winds will be out of the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

Jones said Lawrence will get 14 hours and 54 minutes of daylight today on one of the longest days of the year.

At 7:30 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 62 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were calm. The average low temperature for this date is 67 degrees. The record low was 50 degrees, set in 1902.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to a low of 64 degrees by early Saturday morning, Jones said. Saturday’s high will climb to 84 degrees, she said.

“The only chance of rain is Saturday night into Sunday, and it’s a very slight chance,” Jones said.

Sunday’s morning low temperature will be 63 degrees, with Sunday’s high temperature climbing to 83 degrees, she said.
