Old home town – 25 years ago today

A 23-year-old Lawrence man had been arrested for looting activity in the tornado-stricken parts of the city. There had been a minimum of such activity, however, and officials praised the citizenry for its good behavior. The twister had killed one, injured about 40 and caused some $20 million in damage, primarily in southwest Lawrence.

A downtown Lawrence business, Masden’s Watch Shop and Bible Supplies, was the target of an armed robbery, and three people in the store were tied up and left in the basement. Nobody was hurt, and little was gained from the heist, police said.
