Storms stay to the south, hot day ahead
More 90-degree weather moving in
Storms were moving across northeast Kansas this morning, but the Lawrence area has stayed in the clear, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
“We are watching storms off to the south of us,” Schack said. “I think we’ll end up keeping it dry this morning.”
More weather
Schack said Lawrence can expect temperatures to head up to a high of 93 degrees this afternoon.
“It does look like a very warm afternoon,” she said. The average high temperature for this date is 86 degrees. The record high was 107 degrees, set in 1936.
“It will be a little bit warmer today than where we were during the weekend,” Schack said. Today’s skies will be partly cloudy, with southwest winds 5 to 10 mph, Schack said.
At 7:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 69 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were out of the southwest at 5 mph.
The average low temperature for this date is 66 degrees. The record low was 50 degrees, set in 1945.
Overnight, storms will be redeveloping to the north of Lawrence, Schack said. However, Lawrence will stay dry overnight, with the low falling to 70 degrees by early Tuesday morning, she said.
“It does look like a hot end to the spring season,” Schack said. Tuesday, the last day of spring, will see temperatures climb to a high of 96 degrees, she said.
It might rain on Wednesday, the first day of summer, Schack said. There’s a chance for isolated storms Wednesday morning, she said.
Wednesday’s morning temperature will start with a low of 72 degrees and climb to a high of 93 degrees Wednesday afternoon, she said.
