Warm and breezy for Flag Day

More hot weather on the way

Raise the Stars and Stripes – sunny skies and afternoon breezes will make for a good Flag Day holiday.

“We will have sunshine through the afternoon and we will take the temperature above average,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “South winds (at 7 to 15 mph) will allow the temperaturse to head up to 90 degrees.”

At 7:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 64 degrees, the humidity was 84 percent and winds were calm.

The average low temperature for this date is 65 degrees. The record low was 44 degrees, set in 1942.

Today’s high temperature of 90 will be a little warmer than usual. The average high temperature for this date is 85 degrees. The record high was 97 degrees, set in 1987, Schack said.

“Get used to it. It looks like a hot end to the work week,” she said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 66 degrees tonight, she said.

Thursday’s high will reach 93 degrees, with south winds at 12-18 mph and partly cloudy skies, she said.

Friday’s morning low temperature will be 69 degrees. The temperature will climb to 94 degrees by Friday afternoon, with partly cloudy skies, she said.
