Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for June 13, 1906: “The attitude of political independence of The World puzzles old-line politicians who hold to the idea that our paper ought to stay out of politics altogether or line up with a party and its members and agree with anything it does. Neither of these is acceptable and we will continue our policy of independent support or opposition in matters political. : The Lawrence Committee has made plans for a marvelous July 4 celebration here and the program will be announced in a few days. It sounds promising. : Wheat producers in Kansas say they will need only 21,015 extra hands for this year’s harvest, which means many will not be able to make the $2 a day pay that many students depend upon. Harvest will commence soon.”
