Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for June 12, 1906: “From Washington comes notice that Oklahoma and Indian Territory will be admitted to the Union. Arizona and New Mexico are to vote Nov. 6 on whether to join as one state. It will take a majority approval in both states for that to happen. : The greatest yacht race in the history of the Pacific began yesterday from San Pedro, Calif., when three boats set out for Hawaii. : The city council last night objected to the use of the new oil-burned brick for the East Quincy paving. The bricks apparently are not the same size and quality as those which were submitted when the contract was let. However it was decided to go ahead with the work with the brickmaker saying any faulty products would be replaced if necessary. . . . There was another store burglary here last night and so far no arrests have been made after a long series of such thefts.”
