New York loses another one to surging Oakland

? Dan Johnson’s second homer snapped an eighth-inning tie, Barry Zito won his fifth straight decision, and the Oakland Athletics completed their first sweep at Yankee Stadium in 12 years by beating New York, 6-5, on Sunday.

Nick Swisher hit an inside-the-park homer, and Jason Kendall drove in two runs for the surging A’s, who have won four in a row and seven of eight. They are 9-2 following a 1-10 skid.

Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his 14th save in 17 chances.

Boston – After David Ortiz hit a dramatic, game-ending three-run homer off Akinori Otsuka in the opener to lift the Red Sox to a 5-4 victory, the Rangers jumped out to an early lead in second game and never trailed in the 13-6 triumph.

Toronto – Ivan Rodriguez homered and tied a season-high with five RBIs, and the Tigers won consecutive games for the first time in two weeks.

Twins 4, Orioles 0

Minneapolis – Rookie Francisco Liriano allowed just one hit while striking out six in seven innings to lead the Twins over Baltimore.

Liriano (5-1) carried a no-hitter into the fifth before Javy Lopez managed a single.

Anaheim, Calif. – Felix Hernandez pitched a four-hitter for his first complete game in the majors. Hernandez (6-6) won his third straight outing.

Indians 10, White Sox 8

Chicago – Victor Martinez and Ronnie Belliard hit two-run homers, and Travis Hafner and Jason Michaels added solo shots for the Indians.

Nationals 6, Phillies 0

Washington – Shawn Hill allowed two hits in seven innings, and Jose Guillen had a two-run double to lead the Nationals.

Cincinnati – Carlos Marmol pitched six strong innings in his first major-league start, and Neifi Perez, Ronny Cedeno and Phil Nevin all homered for Chicago.
