Raiders roll into finals of tourney
SPRINGFIELD, MO. ? The Lawrence Raiders notched their second straight 11-1 victory Saturday, rolling over Ozark (Mo.) in the semifinals of the Kickapoo Legion baseball tournament.
“That team is good,” Raiders coach Troy Wingert said of Ozark. “We just got on them early and didn’t let up. It was a good team win for us.”
Kansas University’s Max Ellenbecker improved to 2-0, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out four.
Free State High’s Scott Heishusen was 2-for-3 with six RBIs and two home runs.
“Scott had a good batting practice before the game, and he obviously carried that to the plate,” Wingert said. “The ball was really jumping off his bat.”
Free State’s Kyle Cross hit a solo homer and went 2-for-2.
The Raiders (6-0) will compete in the finals of the Kickapoo Tournament at 4 p.m. today.
