Raiders remain unbeaten with tournament win
SPRINGFIELD, MO. ? The Lawrence Raiders earned a run-rule youth baseball victory against Camdenton (Mo.) in the first round of the Kickapoo Tournament, 11-1, Friday.
Free State High’s Travis Blankenship notched the win, throwing a one-hitter and lasting all five innings of the shortened contest. Free State’s Travis Ice went 3-for-3 at the plate. Lawrence High’s Brian Heere and Patrick Johnson each hit a two-run home run.
“They had a guy on the mound who was keeping us off balance,” Raiders coach Troy Wingert said, “but we did a good job of staying up there and battling.”
The Raiders improved to 5-0 and will continue Kickapoo Tournament play at 3:45 this afternoon.
