Warm and sticky today

Clouds to thin out through afternoon

If you’re heading out to the Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival at Clinton Lake, pack the sunscreen. And grab a bag of ice.

“We’re heading up to 90 degrees today,” says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. And Friday’s temperature is headed up to 97 degrees, Schack said.

“It looks like a warm Thursday and a hot Friday,” she said.

Some high clouds will pass through today, but they’ll thin out in the afternoon, with humid conditions, she said.

“It will start to feel more sticky,” she said.

The average high temperature for this date is 84 degrees. The record high was 99 degrees, set in 1934.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 64 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 5 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 63 degrees. The record low was 45 degrees, set in 1913.

Overnight, the temperature will fall off to 68 degrees by early Friday morning, Schack said.

Friday will be “very hot,” climbing to 97 degrees on Friday afternoon, she said.

“It will stay sticky for the weekend, but temperatures begin to drop,” she said.

Saturday’s morning low temperature will be 72 degrees, with Saturday’s high reaching 88, she said. There is a chance for an isolated storm on Saturday, Schack said.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
