¢ Mat Champs: Brandon Goodwin and Shelby Bowman of Lawrence Coyotes Wrestling Club earned championships in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the state meet in Junction City. The Coyotes’ Jessica Bowman was a freestyle champion. Second places went to Kayla Gore, Taylor Young and Andy Jones. Anastacia Ramirez collected a third place and Emma Mercer a fourth.

¢ Phenix Second Twice: Lawrence Phenix U-14 girls softball finished second in the Memorial Day Classic at Basehor and runner-up at the Bug Bash Tournament in Shawnee over the last two weekends. Team members are Anna Mages, Kylee Mader, Haley Finucane, Calleigh Durr, Allison Hoover, Madison Oller, Bailey Scott, Lexi Smith, Kacie Welborn, Allison Ice, Jamie Morgison and Maddy Wilson. Coaches are Bill Finucane, Lee Ice and Marv Oller.

¢ Johnson Hole-in-One: Jeff Johnson of Lawrence used a nine-iron to ace the 128-yard No. 10 hole at Flint Hills National Golf Course in Andover. Witnesses were Eric Barkley, Mike Byrn and Michael Monroe.

¢ Boeck Age-Group Winner: Dee Boeck of Lawrence won the women’s ages 55-59 age group of the Hospital Hill Half-Marathon Saturday in Kansas City, Mo. Lawrence’s Lori Lange and D.J. Hilding finished second and third respectively in their age groups. In the 12K, Lawrence’s Fran Breslauer won the women’s 65-69 category and Ken Johnson was second in his age group.

¢ Bowling Champs: Rusty Bruns rolled a 754 to lead Royal Crest Lanes to the championship of the Central Kansas Team Challenge bowling tournament in Topeka. Also on the team were Gary Howard 726, Larry Burton 697, Wayne Martin 605 and Dennis Jacobson 564. A Lawrence team composed of Barry Walthall, Greg Putthoff, Larry Franklin, Larry Franklin Jr. and Tom Franklin finished third.
