LARNED ? Virginia K. Shearrer, Larned’s Emergency Medical Service director, died Monday after completing an emergency call. She was 63.

Gary Heartman of the Larned EMS said Shearrer made the run to St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned late Sunday or early Monday. He said that shortly after arriving at the emergency room she complained of a headache.

She was given initial treatment there, then flown to Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita, where she later died.

Shearrer was the wife of Pawnee County Sheriff Leon Shearrer. She began working for the emergency service in 1976, becoming assistant director in 1983 and director in 2002.
