Boston drills Detroit

? David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez homered, and the Boston Red Sox had three bases-loaded walks in an 8-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

Ortiz walked three times for Boston, which won two of three in the weekend series. Alex Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis also homered for the Red Sox.

Ramirez, Ortiz and Trot Nixon had bases-loaded walks during Boston’s three-run eighth inning. Tigers manager Jim Leyland also was ejected for arguing balls and strikes.

Detroit has lost six of eight, including five of seven in back-to-back series against the Yankees and Boston.

Orioles 11, Yankees 4

Baltimore – Javy Lopez hit two of Baltimore’s four home runs, Rodrigo Lopez won his third straight start, and the Orioles avoided a three-game sweep.

Javy Lopez led off the second inning with a homer and hit a three-run drive in the fifth to make it 10-0. It was his 22nd career multihomer game, the first since 2004.

Kevin Millar and rookie Brandon Fahey homered in a five-run third against Aaron Small (0-3).

Athletics 5, Twins 1

Oakland, Calif. – Rich Harden struck out six in his first start back from the disabled list, and light-hitting Marco Scutaro got three hits for the Athletics.

Dan Johnson homered for the A’s, who took three of four from Minnesota after losing 10 of their previous 12.

Harden allowed one run in four innings while working on a pitch count. Brad Halsey (3-2) took it from there, allowing two hits in five strong innings to win his second consecutive game.

A’s designated hitter Frank Thomas left the game in the third inning due to soreness in his left foot.

Rangers 10, White Sox 2

Chicago – Gerald Laird homered twice and drove in a career-high four runs for Texas.

Laird had a career-high four hits and his first career multihomer game as the AL West-leading Rangers took two of three from Chicago.

Mark Teixeria also had four hits and four RBIs for Texas.

Devil Rays 10, Blue Jays 5

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Doug Waechter won for the first time since August, and Damon Hollins hit a three-run homer.

Waechter (1-4) gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings, winning for the first time since Aug. 27. He had gone 0-8 with seven no-decisions during that span.

The Devil Rays hit three homers off Gustavo Chacin.

Angels 14, Indians 2

Cleveland – John Lackey allowed two hits in seven shutout innings, and Vladimir Guerrero hit one of three homers off Indians ace C.C. Sabathia to lead the Angels to the victory.
