Ibanez, Mariners halt slide

? Raul Ibanez homered and drove in four runs during Seattle’s early outburst, and the Mariners ended a six-game losing streak with a 14-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

During the game, the Rangers traded struggling designated hitter Phil Nevin to the Chicago Cubs for utility player Jerry Hairston Jr. Nevin was hitting .216 with nine homers and 31 RBIs, with only two hits (both home runs) his last 32 at-bats.

Seattle built a 7-0 lead and had 11 hits in 22â3 innings against rookie left-hander John Koronka (4-3).

Baltimore – Melvin Mora singled in the winning run with two outs in the 11th inning.

Twins 7, Angels 1

Anaheim, Calif. – Francisco Liriano pitched six shutout innings, allowing his only hit on a disputed call at first base, and Minnesota avoided a sweep. Joe Mauer had three hits.

Yankees 6, Tigers 1

Detroit – Mike Mussina threw his first complete game of the season, taking a shutout into the ninth. Alex Rodriguez went 3-for-4.

Red Sox 8, Blue Jays 6

Toronto – David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez homered, and rookie closer Jonathan Papelbon earned his 19th save in as many chances as Boston avoided a three-game sweep.

Indians 5, White Sox 0

Cleveland – Jake Westbrook shut out Chicago for seven innings, and Cleveland’s bullpen didn’t allow a run for a second straight game.
