Residents donate air conditioners

Cool air was starting to flow again Wednesday afternoon inside the trailer of Robert and Martha Davis at Gaslight Village, 1900 W. 31st St.

Lawrence and area residents stepped up to help the family Wednesday after Robert Davis, 60, a diabetic with both legs amputated, was featured in a Journal-World story Wednesday.

The family’s air conditioner failed last week.

“There was air conditioners coming from everywhere, which we really appreciate,” Davis said Wednesday afternoon.

At least two people bought new units for the family, and someone else had given them one.

Workers from Anchor Air & Heat Inc. were helping install them in the bedroom and living room.

Davis said the workers would also try to add Freon to make his old unit blow cool air again.
