No pedestrian board

Commissioners did not grant a request to establish a new advisory board that would study pedestrian safety issues.

Commissioners said the issue was important but questioned whether it would be more appropriately handled by the existing Traffic Safety Commission. Members of a pedestrian subcommittee of the Traffic Safety Commission had made the request to become a full-fledged city advisory board.

City commissioners instead directed staff members to look at the possibility of creating a Transportation Advisory Commission that would serve as an umbrella group for studying pedestrian, vehicle, public transit and bicycle issues.
