LMH expansion on planning agenda

Lawrence-Douglas County planning commissioners are scheduled to consider a trio of large projects at their meeting tonight.

The meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, will include a request for a permit to allow Lawrence Memorial Hospital to expand its main campus at 325 Maine.

The hospital has long planned a $50 million expansion that will add private rooms, a new emergency department, surgery suites and other amenities.

Commissioners also will consider a preliminary development plan for Aberdeen on Sixth Street, a 104-unit apartment complex and four duplex units on 9.59 acres at the southeast corner of Sixth Street and Stoneridge Drive.

Planning commissioners also will consider a development plan for a commercial development at the northeast corner of Wakarusa Drive and Clinton Parkway. The five-acre development would include a car wash, convenience store, commercial/office building and restaurant.

All decisions by the Planning Commission are advisory. City commissioners have final approval.
