The Lawrence City Band will not reschedule the final band concert of the year. The summer schedule was set to conclude last week, but the concert was canceled due to the heat. Citing personnel problems, band officials say they will not hold the traditional final concert of the year -- which features the 1812 Overture -- complete with firing off cannons. The Lawrence City Band will play in South Park on Sunday, September 17, 2006, to celebrate the city's 152nd birthday.

Too bad, it is always a great event! I hope they bring the cannons on the 17th!

Aw! Darn! I really like the 1812 Overture. It's always my favorite part of the summer concert season. Maybe they can play it on the 17th.

I'm really bummed out as I too was really looking forward to the overture! the way it is done at the city band concert is so very exciting.
please, find a way to do this later in the year! thank you for all the great work you have done before, city band.
