Padres coach Muser slapped for outburst

? San Diego Padres bench coach Tony Muser was suspended for one game and fined by Major League Baseball on Thursday for his actions during Sunday’s game against the Braves.

Muser and San Diego manager Bruce Bochy were ejected in the sixth inning of the Padres’ 10-5 loss after Atlanta’s Chipper Jones checked his swing with one out. On appeal, third base umpire Ed Hickox ruled that Jones didn’t swing.

Home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman then ripped off his mask and began walking toward the Padres’ dugout while exchanging words, apparently with Muser, who was tossed. Both Muser and Bochy came out to argue, and Bochy eventually was ejected. Bochy kept arguing and had to be restrained by first base umpire Gary Darling.

Muser, who managed the Kansas City Royals from 1997-2002, is scheduled to serve his suspension today.
