Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 21, 1906: “Mr. George Nicholson of Iola will personally provide the salary of an assistant to Dr. Patton, professor of philosophy and biblical literature at Baker University, because of Dr. Patton’s important work. : Police today arrested two boys for stealing shoes from Salvation Army headquarters. Each blamed the other but both confessed and they will be punished appropriately. : The university is in the process of locating the cleanest and most sanitary living units for its students this fall. Many questions and checkups are facing would-be landlords to designate healthy and unhealthy sites in the best interests of the students. It is a good program worthy of support because students are so important here.”
