TOPEKA ? Christopher Lee Jackson, a 22-year-old Lawrence man who was charged with robbing a Topeka bank, today pleaded guilty in federal district court to brandishing a firearm during the May 27 robbery.

Jackson will face seven years in federal prison for the robbery at Capital City Bank, 2040 Northwest Topeka Blvd., according to a statement released today by U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.

“Mr. Jackson brandished a .22-calibre revolver during the bank robbery, which means he will face a mandatory minimum sentence of not less than seven years,” Melgren said in a prepared statement.

Jackson’s plea said he left the bank and fled in a car driven by his brother, Dana Shawn Worford. Melgren’s office said the pair were stopped less than 15 minutes later by Kansas Highway Patrol troopers who had been given a description of their vehicle when it left the bank.

Jackson pleaded guilty during an appearance before U.S. Dist. Judge Julie A. Robinson. Jackson is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 16. Woford, who has also been charged with armed robbery, is scheduled for trial on Aug. 15.
