Lawrence NAACP to stage cooking event

Real men cook, the Lawrence NAACP says. And on July 30, they’ll prove it.

The NAACP will play host to the “Real Men Cook” music and food-sampling event at Steve’s Place, 31st and Louisiana streets, where men from the community plan to serve up edibles in a judged contest.

Guest judges should include Douglas County Dist. Atty. Charles Branson, “Confederate States of America” filmmaker Kevin Willmott and City Commissioner Boog Highberger.

Attendees will be able to take part in a wine tasting courtesy of Wyldewood Cellar Wineries.

Cost is $20 at the door, with all proceeds going to benefit the Lawrence NAACP scholarship fund.
