? Melky Cabrera’s RBI single put the Yankees in front during a three-run eighth inning and New York hung on to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5 Friday, snapping Jose Contreras’ 17-game unbeaten streak.

Aaron Guiel, recently claimed off waivers from Kansas City, hit a solo homer in the sixth.

Kyle Farnsworth (3-4) pitched a perfect eighth and Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his 20th save in 22 chances. Rivera allowed two runs before he got pinch-hitter A.J. Pierzynski to fly out to right with a runner on third to end it.

Athletics 15, Red Sox 3

Boston – Oakland finally gave Barry Zito some run support, spotting him to a 7-0 lead and then piling on eight unearned runs in the eighth inning.

Angels 4, Devil Rays 0

Anaheim, Calif. – John Lackey pitched a five-hitter for his second consecutive shutout, and Vladimir Guerrero was 3-for-4 with a tiebreaking home run.

Twins 3, Indians 2, 10 innings

Minneapolis – Jason Tyner’s RBI single in the 10th inning lifted Minnesota. Joe Nathan (6-0) pitched a perfect 10th for the win. Jason Michaels homered for the Indians.

Mariners 5, Blue Jays 3

Toronto – Gil Meche won his fifth straight decision, and Adrian Beltre drove in two runs to lead Seattle. Meche allowed three runs and six hits, while striking out five and walking one in six innings.

Rangers 2, Orioles 1

Baltimore – Kevin Millwood and three relievers combined on a six-hitter, and Texas capitalized on one shaky inning by Kris Benson.
