Lawrence mom third at fitness competition

A Lawrence woman, Kimberly Stroup, placed third overall in the Women’s Tri-Fitness World Challenge last weekend in Las Vegas.

Stroup, one of the volunteer leaders at Red Dog’s Dog Days, competed against about 200 women in the international competition, which drew contestants from the U.S., Great Britain and Germany.

A stay-at-home mother, Stroup competed in the 34-39 age category in all four events. They were a military-style obstacle course; a skills category that included bench press, a shuttle run and a plyometric box jump; a grace and physique category; and a fitness routine category.

“Dog Days is a large part of my success,” Stroup said Tuesday. “I’d feel lost without it.”

She also trains at the Studio Alpha private workout facility in Lawrence.
