City officials seemed receptive to the pleas for a much-improved downtown image, as espoused by city planner Jim Hatcher, urban consultant from Little Rock, Ark. Hatcher had said that most of the existing downtown had nothing to recommend it as “something to be remembered, by anyone.” He added, however, that if a good deal of imaginative work could be done, the personality could definitely be changed for the better.
