Swimmers storm Lawrence

A full slate of 680 swimmers will continue their quest to become sectional qualifiers at the Roger Hill Invitational this weekend.

The event is hosted by the Lawrence Aquahawks and will take place at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center.

The meet will start at 8:15 a.m. today, with the 10 & Under and 11-12 year-olds competing in the morning hours. The 13-14 and open divisions will begin their heats at 2 p.m. The same schedule will take place Sunday as well. The open section includes top high school swimmers from the area and some from Kansas University as well.

More than 20 teams have traveled to Lawrence to participate in the event.

This will mark the sixth year the meet has been held indoors. Previously, it was run outside at the Lawrence Aquatic Center.

The pool has altered its business hours to the public because of the annual invitational, which was named 17 years ago after the passing of an Aquahawks’ volunteer.
