¢ Knights of Columbus Council 1372 announces officers for the fraternal year that began July 1. Those elected are: Brian Walter, grand knight; Stephen Smith, chancellor; David Walker, recorder; Ed Mullins, treasurer; Paul Clark, advocate, Joe Laframboise, warden; Mike Sheridan, inside guard; Valentine Romero, outside guard; Gerald Denning, one-year trustee; Mark Klug, two-year trustee; John Callewaert, three-year trustee; and Dorian Witte, financial secretary.

¢ Knights of Columbus Council 1372 served breakfast June 28 to the bike-and-build group that stopped in Lawrence to put up fences at Habitat for Humanity homes near 19th Street and Haskell Avenue. The club served pancakes, sausage and eggs to the group that spent the night in the gym at St. John the Evangelist School. St. John parishioners were invited to breakfast to welcome and thank the group for its work.

¢ Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6 will observe its sesquicentennial anniversary July 15 at 1601 W. 23rd St., Suite 203.

On July 14, 1856, the Grand Lodge of the Kansas Territory issued a charter to Lawrence Lodge No. 6 allowing the lodge to do Masonic work.

The anniversary celebration will start with a buffet lunch at 11:30 a.m. Reservations for the lunch are requested. After lunch re-enactors from Lecompton will give a program, “Bleeding Kansas,” while dressed in clothing from the era. The play will be performed in a town hall setting with speeches concerning whether Kansas will be a free state or slave state. J. Howard Duncan is the playwright of “Bleeding Kansas.”

Members will give a short history of the Lawrence lodge.

Several Masons will be recognized for their years of service. Gary Beasley, Benjamin Eaton, Howard Duncan and Henry Johns will receive 25-year emblems. Raymond Feist, Robert Kaiser and Arthur Queen will receive 50-year emblems and certificates. William Burcham and Roger Quakenbush will receive 60-year emblems and certificates. Richard Treece will be recognized as a 65-year member.

The Grand Lodge officers will recognize members with 50 years or more of Masonic service.
