Beijing, China ? An explosion in a villager’s home killed at least 43 people early today in northern China, a government news agency reported.

Another 28 people were injured in the 6:30 a.m. explosion in the village of Dongzhai in Shanxi province, the Xinhua News Agency said.

It said the cause of the explosion was under investigation.

Shanxi is a major coal-producing area, and frequently suffers fatal accidents blamed on improperly stored explosives used for mining.
