Law enforcement report

¢ Someone destroyed a toilet with an explosive device between midnight and 1 a.m. Tuesday at the lower Walnut campground at Clinton Lake. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating it as a case of arson.

¢ A 25-year-old woman told police her boyfriend choked her, hit her, threatened to kill her and broke a window at her apartment Wednesday morning in the 500 block of Rockledge Road. Police are trying to find the man but had not as of Thursday.

¢ Police officers took a Lawrence teenager into custody Thursday evening after witnesses said they tried to stop the suspect from pouring lighter fluid onto a car in the 4000 block of Overland Drive, said Sgt. Susan Hadl, a Lawrence police spokeswoman.

Witnesses told officers that the suspect became upset during a conversation with other teens when the suspect tried to light the car on fire. Two teenagers tried to stop the suspect when the suspect then battered them, Hadl said. No one was injured, but the suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of the two batteries and attempted arson. As of Thursday night, professionals at Lawrence Memorial Hospital were assessing the suspect for mental health issues, Hadl said.

¢ A 38 year-old Lawrence man received a ticket from police officers Thursday afternoon after he ran a red light in the Jeep he drove that caused a three-vehicle accident at Sixth and Iowa streets, said Sgt. Susan Hadl, a Lawrence police spokeswoman.

The northbound Jeep entered the intersection at 2:50 p.m. from Iowa Street and struck an eastbound Ford dump truck. The Jeep then spun around and also struck a westbound Nissan car, Hadl said. A passenger in the Jeep suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene, Hadl said.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A Honda four-wheeler and a 25-gallon sprayer valued at more than $4,700 total disappeared between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday from property in the 1300 block of north 1300 Road.

¢ A 56-year-old man’s Isuzu Rodeo valued at $4,000, along with $20,000 in tools, were stolen between 11 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday from the 2700 block of Lawrence Avenue.

¢ Between 6 p.m. June 30 and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, someone broke a window at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house in the 1600 block of Tennessee Street and stole a 52-inch TV valued at $2,500.
