Yankees claim Guiel off waivers from Royals

? In need of outfielders, the New York Yankees claimed Aaron Guiel off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Guiel was designated for assignment by the Royals last Friday. He hit .220 with three home runs and seven RBIs in 19 games this year.

The Yankees currently have All-Star outfielders Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui on the disabled list.

Guiel hit .245 with 31 homers and 117 RBIs in 263 games over the parts of five seasons with Kansas City. His best year was 2003, when he batted .277 with 15 homers and 52 RBIs.
