Physical therapist earns certification

The International Childbirth Education Assn. recently named Sara Johnston as a certified Perinatal Fitness Educator, granting her the ICPFE designation.

Johnston, a physical therapist for Kreider Rehabilitation Services at Lawrence Memorial Hospital South, teaches Fit For Two, an eight-week exercise program for expectant and new mothers. To attain her certification, Johnston completed prerequisite courses, compiled teaching hours and finished study modules in 10 different areas of perinatal education.

The association is a professional organization with more than 4,000 members. ICEA professionals facilitate parents’ mental and physical preparation for pregnancy, labor and parenthood.

Johnston earned her bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in exercise science in pre-physical therapy from Kansas University. She continued her education at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, St. Augustine, Fla., where she graduated with her master’s degree at the Institute of Physical Therapy.
