Kansas City, Mo ? The Royals put pitcher Mike Wood on the 15-day disabled list Monday with an inflammation in his back.

The right-hander allowed eight runs in 42â3 innings Sunday in a loss at St. Louis. He was 3-3 with a 5.66 earned run average in 21 games, including seven starts. He was 0-3 as a starter.

Manager Buddy Bell said right-hander Luke Hudson will take Wood’s spot in the rotation, becoming the 13th starter used by the Royals before the All-Star break. Hudson is 1-3 with a 7.24 ERA in 11 relief appearances.
