Atlanta ? The St. Louis Cardinals optioned reliever Brad Thompson to Triple-A Memphis and recalled outfielder Chris Duncan before Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

In 32 games this season, Thompson gave up four homers, just one less than in all of 2005. Manager Tony La Russa said Thompson was sent down so he could get regular work.
