The Cardinals optioned outfielder Timo Perez to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday to make room for right-hander Jason Kinney.

The 27-year-old Kinney, who has never pitched in the majors, was 1-2 with a 1.62 earned-run average for Memphis.

Perez hit .240 with a homer and two RBIs in 18 games for St. Louis.
