Old home town – 25 years ago today

Great imagination and enterprise had been noted in the cars built by local youngsters age 11-15 for the first Lawrence Soap Box Derby. Thirty youngsters and their homemade cars were set to compete, and the entry list included boys from both Topeka and Ottawa, which did not have derbies. The Lawrence Jaycees and Winter Chevrolet were in charge of the initial race here.
